One of the best locations in all of Chicago for shooting engagement photos is Chicago’s Millennium Park. If you’re recently engaged and looking for a place to do your engagement pictures you could do a lot worse than starting off or ending up in a
location like Millennium Park. Chicago offers engaged couples a million possibilities when it comes to engagement photos and I encourage every couple to come up with at least one location that is unique to their own relationship… perhaps the place whereyou met or went on your first date, a favorite park, or even coffee shop! But of course every couple loves the skyline and city and wants to include that in their engagement shoot at some point and so the question becomes where to go. There are several verypopular locations for engagement photos along the lake shore in Chicago some of which include North Avenue Beach (one of my favorites), Navy Pier, Buckingham Fountain, and of course the Museum Campus and while all of these are GREAT locations forportraits none of them really compare to Millennium Park for one reason, diversity. Millennium Park offers couples and photographers almost unlimited possibilities for portraits! Millennium Park features some amazing landmarks, its proximity to the skyline is second to none, it is ON the magnificent mile, and you can literally stand in one spot and simply by changing your perspective you can go from peaceful garden to urban city. I’ve shot several engagement sessions here and every time I come the light is different, the flowers and trees are different colors and I walk away with pictures I never would have imagined capturing at the previous engagement shoot. This is the perfect location for the couple who wants “chicago landmark” type photos and yet at the same time you can capture quiet beautiful portraits that give you no hint as to their location or the fact that there are millions of people around. Take the images from this shoot as an example, it was not the busiest day at Millennium park and yet we were constantly being passed by people or observed by onlookers and yet we are able to capture images that make it appear as if we had the city to
ourselves that day. Finally the last reason I love this location is the fact that when you’re done here it’s just a short walk to Michigan Ave, the river, Buckingham fountain, and Lake Michigan, it’s in the heart of the city and doesn’t require a cab ride or crazy search
for parking or anything! IF you’re considering having your engagement session here there are a couple of thing you should keep in mind… Evening is great because the sun is behind the skyline which means you won’t be fighting any harsh shadows or light in
your eyes. Saturdays are NOT a good time to shoot here, yes it is possible to shoot here on a Saturday but your life will be made much easier if you do it any other day of the week. Finally take your time, Millennium Park offers so much more than the fountain and Bean and as you walk around and observe the space you’ll find yourself coming up with all sorts of possibilities!!
