One question I’m asked quite often is “What is the right time to do our engagement photos?”. The truth is that it just depends on the day. Take this day for example, we couldn’t have asked for more beautiful light, and it wasn’t too cold or windy! Of course there’s no telling what a day will be like when you’re planning a shoot especially in the fall but I like to schedule engagement photos to start an hour or an hour and a half before sunset. This gives us a wide range of light to work with from late afternoon, to sunset, to twilight. I also like to plan on checking in with

a couple the day before a shoot so we can adjust our plans if it looks like we might have bad weather to deal with. For example it can get dark as much as an hour earlier if it’s really cloudy out and you want to be prepared if thats going to be the case. The last thing to keep in mind is that sunset times change dramatically from summer to fall and even from month to month at the beginning or end of the year so make sure you are checking sunset times when you schedule your shoot!
