Beach Wedding | Mt Baldy Beach in Michigan City Indiana

Beach wedding, Mount Baldy Beach, Indiana State Dunes, Michigan City, Lake Michigan Beach, Weddding, Beach Ceremony
This incredible beach wedding wasn’t technically on the beach, it was on top of Mt Baldy which is a huge dune located along the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. Regardless of whether or not you would consider this a beach wedding the bride, groom and guests had a stunning view of Lake Michigan.

To get to the ceremony site on top of the dunes requires a hike through the park, the walk takes about 5 minutes and isn’t too challenging. Unless you have a lot of elderly people attending the ceremony or you’re carrying 30lbs of camera gear and are paranoid sand getting sand into your lenses you shouldn’t have any problem!

As you can tell the view is incredible and the fact that the wedding ceremony was on the beach meant we were able to get beautiful wedding pictures overlooking Lake Michigan, the beach, and the dunes.

This is one of my favorite shots on the beach with the bridal party, everyone had to run from the top of the dune down to the lake and put their feet in the water to cool off before doing the jump!

Monica Z - These photos are gorgeous! What a great idea!! Though I must correct you on the location of Mt Baldy, it is actually in Michigan City:) We take our dogs there often, I always love seeing other photographers photos of places in my town. 🙂

Ben - Ah HA! Thanks for the heads up on the location, I’ll update the post! Let this be a lesson to all the brides out there… Make sure your photographer has accurate addresses and good directions because you never know where they’ll end up if you force them to use google maps! =)

Ashley - I would love to get married at Mt Baldy. Was it hard to find the space available since it is a public beach?

Ben - Hi Ashley, Because they got married on top of the dune it wasn’t very crowded and people were actually very respectful of the ceremony. When we went down to the water to do some Bridal Party photos it was definitely more crowded but again people made room for us. I was actually surprised how smoothly everything went. People carried a beach chair or blanket up to the top and sat or stood for the ceremony, and that seemed to work well. My guess is if you did it on a holiday weekend or late in the afternoon it would be harder to find parking/space but this wedding really went quite smoothly all things considered!

    Amanda Fritz - Hi Ben:
What beatiful photography pictures. Just wondering how someone had their wedding there and how they went about doing it. I do not know how I would get a hold of them…but this is exactly what I WANT and would love to get some feedback from you and more information about your photography!

Hillary Fugger - I was wondering if you could possibly give me a price quote on having a wedding ceremony/reception here thank you

Dana - Hello, I was wondering if you had to get a permit thru the national park or the state park? And what time of day did you have your wedding? Plus how many people were there and did you have to worry about parking? We are looking at having our wedding here but are worried about parking…

Mike Glowacki - I was just wondering, is thee a place with a roof near by in case
of a rain out on your wedding date? That would be my only fear!

Ben - Not really… they got married on top of the dune which was definitely out in the open. I think to pull this off you have to really be committed to the idea that no matter what this is where you want to get married. I think a lot of umbrellas could help if it rains but realistically there are no alternatives within walking distance.
